Summer of 2022, Santa Cruz Shakespeare Fringe.
Just Desserts by Carol Lashov is a play about the three Furies and Orestes, in which he comes to them for help killing his mother in revenge and they refuse. It was the Fringe show of Santa Cruz Shakespeare’s 2022 summer season. Asta was the lighting designer, and used the rep plot designed for the season by Kent Dorsey for the main season (The Tempest by William Shakespeare, Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare, and another play).
The show takes place in an atemporal ancient Greece, between the Furies’ lair and the steps of Athena’s temple. At times, the Furies step into characters and act out scenes from Agamemnon’s life.
Asta enjoyed working with everyone on the production, especially director Rebecca and the stage management team. They also appreciated working with such a minimal set, as it allowed them to get creative and carve out scenes and temporality from a variety of angles.
